I'd like to give credit to Bose Badmus for this blog post. She gave me the title and some content. Please read and enjoy.
"Confidence" is a state of mind where you know you are the best while considering others views towards a particular thing, while "Over-confidence" is a situation where you think no other person can do better than you because you alone know it all.
Another thing is confidence also makes you believe in yourself as well as believing in others while being over-confident makes you believe only in yourself not considering any other factor.
Being confident helps you grow. It helps you meet new people. It helps you set standards for yourself. It gives room for respect. It helps you have a wide range of knowledge through the help of other. Over-confidence on the other hand makes you full of yourself, ignorant in most cases and on the long run, make you know very little.
You think you are the best amongst all whereas it's just your thinking.
Imagine going for an interview, a confident person will prepare well with no fears but an over-confident person goes there with the aim of "slaying" the interview. An over-confident person will get there trying to act smarter than the interviewer. However, he loses the job.
A smart person remains humble with his confidence but an over-confident person just wants to show himself and at the end becomes a nuisance.
